The aim of EYLF is to extend and enrich children’s learning from birth to five years and through the transition to school. It was developed by the Council of Australian Governments to assist educators to provide young children with opportunities to maximise their potential and develop a foundation for future success in learning.

​The Larrakeyah Primary School Swimming Program commenced last week. This is an annual event and provides the opportunity for all students in the school to take part in the Royal Life Saving Swim and Survive program.

In 2014/15 we conducted an analysis of writing results achieved by our students. It became apparent that, although students at Larrakeyah were achieving well in comparison to other schools in Darwin and around Australia, there had been no year-on-year improvement, in fact there had actually been a slight decrease in NAPLAN results.

The subject of Mathematics was identified as a major focus. Today, let's take a look at Mathematics at Larrakeyah Primary School; how teachers program mathematics, how Mathematics is taught, what a typical lesson structure looks like, what resources are used, how data is used to improve the teaching of mathematics and the learning outcomes of students.

A very different Term 2 at Larrakeyah Primary school is about to end. The coronavirus has impacted all levels of the school and wider community. Fortunately, due to the understanding and support of our wonderful school community and the dedication and perseverance of the school staff, we have survived and thrived this term.

Larrakeyah Primary School is a school of choice for many families because of the academic success students achieve, the support offered to students as well as the range of innovative programs offered.

Becoming an Independent Public School in 2014 has opened many opportunities to improve our already successful school. Since then, with the support of the NT Department of Education, our school leadership has developed the culture and direction of Larrakeyah Primary to provide students with greater opportunities to improve their educational outcomes and develop their social and emotional well-being.

Beyond preparing students with the knowledge and skills core to the Australian Curriculum, at Larrakeyah Primary we aim to extend and support student development through a collection of programs designed to instil a lifelong appreciation for learning.
