Outdoor Education Program

About the program

Students at Larrakeyah Primary School are offered varied and rich learning experiences through the Outdoor Education program. This is a stimulating program that develops personal and social qualities including proactive engagement, resourcefulness, independence, resilience, teamwork and respect for others. Students are given the opportunity to discover hidden strengths and develop their leadership skills and capabilities to approach unfamiliar situations with confidence and knowledge. Rather than learning indirectly from books, children are put in an environment for challenging but safe risk taking. They are then able to learn through direct experience.

Students experience the wonders of the natural world and undertake personal challenges to begin living more in harmony with nature and each other.

Year 6

Year 6 students undertake a 5 day/4 night Asian Studies and Cultural Tour to Singapore. Flying to Singapore the students then participate in a packed program of visiting cultural and historical attractions that assist in the teaching of Asian history, culture, democracy, civics and citizenship, science and art. They also visit Excelsior International School, Johor Bahru, Malaysia which is our sister-school. When there they undertake activities with the students they have been communicating with regularly. This helps to encourage our students to think of themselves as global citizens.
