ASPIRE Program

Building the foundations for QUEST

The ASPIRE Program is an innovative learning initiative introduced at Larrakeyah Primary School in 2023. The program is designed to connect, inspire and develop students’ Design Thinking abilities by bringing real-world contexts into Early Childhood and Middle Primary classrooms.

ASPIRE provides students with a strong foundation for inquiry-based learning and prepares them for the Year 5/6 QUEST Program, where students engage in larger industry-connected projects. Through ASPIRE, students begin developing the 21st Century learning skills needed for future learning, problem solving and collaboration.

Developing future-ready learners

ASPIRE recognises that students need more than knowledge to succeed in the future. The program focuses on developing essential 21st Century skills, including:

  • Critical thinking
  • Problem solving
  • Creativity
  • Collaboration
  • Communication

Students work in teams to explore real-world problems and learn how to take responsibility for both their individual contributions and the success of their group.

Real-world learning through STEAM

Each year level focuses on the same area of interest, allowing students to explore a real-world challenge through STEAM learning — Science, Technologies, Engineering, The Arts and Mathematics.

Students use the Design Thinking process to guide their learning:
Empathise → Define → Ideate → Prototype → Test → Improve

Through this process, students investigate problems, design creative solutions and test their ideas.

Learning beyond the classroom

Where possible, students work with community members and industry professionals to gain authentic knowledge and skills connected to their projects. This allows students to explore different industries and begin discovering areas of passion and interest.

How ASPIRE works

The ASPIRE Program runs annually in Term 3, with students showcasing their learning during an ASPIRE Expo. Through hands-on inquiry, collaboration and real-world problem solving, ASPIRE helps students develop the confidence, skills and curiosity needed to continue their learning journey in the QUEST Program and beyond.
