Learning Intention:
- We are learning to write a newspaper article.
Success Criteria:
- We can write a newspaper article about Li Cunxin, main character in ‘The Peasant Prince’.
- We can use facts and information from the book to write an informative newspaper article.
Our novel study this term is the book ‘The Peasant Prince’. The story is about famous ballet dancer, Li Cunxin. We have been using the books to plot a timeline of Li’s life including where he grew up with his 6 siblings, when he got chosen to attend the ballet school in Bejing, when he was selected to move to America to dance and when he became a professional ballet dancer in the show, ‘The Nutcracker’.
We will work through the Writing Process to plan, draft, edit and publish our newspaper articles.
What the students think of the book ‘The Peasant Prince’
Suri – I like how Li tried his best to dance. I like learning about Li’s life and job as a ballet dancer.
Chloe – I like how it relates to the frog story in the book. Li is like the frog trying to escape his sad and poor life.
Sulthan – I like that it is a story of courage. Li didn’t give up on his ballet and his dreams.
