Larrakeyah Primary Launches Maths Hour: Improving Student Outcomes in Mathematics
At Larrakeyah Primary School, we continually strive to improve student outcomes and support every student to achieve academic excellence. That's why we're excited to introduce our new initiative, Maths Hour.
A new extension and support program
Currently underway, Maths Hour is a hands-on program that aims to improve our students' knowledge and skills in Place Value, an essential concept in mathematics.
Every week, students engage in activities to explore and develop their skills in a specific aspect of place value: calculating, comparing, ordering, counting, representing, naming, recording, and renaming.
Maths Hour provides additional learning opportunities outside of normal classes. Students work in groups based on their understanding of Place Value. This enables students to learn alongside classmates at a similar proficiency level.
Maths Hour builds student skills and confidence
Hands-on learning is a crucial part of Maths Hour. Students use tangible resources to explore concepts visually and physically and engage in open-ended tasks that can be differentiated to suit each individual's pace and needs.
Consistent engagement with Place Value concepts helps our students develop a deeper understanding of the subject matter, improves their skills, and increases their confidence in their mathematical abilities.
Improve student outcomes in mathematics
We’re committed to improving student outcomes in mathematics. Maths Hour supports every student to successfully learn key mathematical concepts, and we are optimistic about the beneficial impact this program will have. As Maths Hour progresses, we look forward to seeing and celebrating the success of each learner.
