About the tutoring program
Larrakeyah Primary School offers a Literacy and Numeracy Tutoring Program. This innovative program is designed to enhance classroom learning for students needing further instruction, support, or extension in the areas of Literacy and Numeracy. The Tutoring program provides students with the opportunity to challenge themselves and develop areas of weakness that may be impeding their progress in Literacy and Numeracy.
When is it run?
This is an after school program that runs for 8 weeks of each term. Tutoring sessions fall into one of two categories: Literacy or Numeracy. The sessions are limited to a minimum of 2 students and a maximum of 5 students to ensure every student receives individual support from the tutors.
Students are able to enrol in either a Literacy session, a Numeracy session or both and each session focuses on skills that the student needs support in. For example, reading, comprehension, grammar, addition, fractions and division.
There is a cost of $320 involved in taking part in the Tutoring program. This amount reflects the cost of running the program, including tutors, materials and resources.
Features of the program
- Tutors will be able to liaise with classroom teachers to determine exactly what areas they will need to focus on with a student.
- Work carried out in the tutoring sessions will follow the curriculum being carried out in the classroom.
- Students will be able to receive better targeted and specific instruction in a more timely manner.
