Writing Focus: 6 Searle
Writing Task: Spectacular Sentences.
This week, we continued learning about sentence structure. Students were taught about the seven parts of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, conjunctions, prepositions and pronouns) and then shown how to combine these into clauses and phrases. We worked on creating exciting and persuasive sentences, which ties in with the work we’re doing on debating. With the help of Pobble 365, an online program that generates a new image every day, we worked together as a class to create a simple sentence. We then worked individually to improve the sentence and practice our new-found language skills, using coloured pens to experiment with changes to clauses and phrases.
Learning Intention: We are learning to build descriptive and persuasive clauses and phrases when writing sentences.
Success Criteria: I can identify and explain the difference between a clause and a phrase and build more descriptive and persuasive sentences by revising and editing my writing.
