Visible Learning- 4 Jankovic
During Week 5, students in Year 4 have been learning about a mathematical topic which is always a lot of fun! 2D and 3D shapes.
In this lesson students participated in ‘hands on’ activities where they handled and explored various 3D shapes and objects, described their attributes and explored nets for common, and not so common, solid shapes. We disassembled a tissue box to examine the net and how it was packaged. The class rotated through a number of activities such as, assembling nets and identifying the 3D shape, describing the type and number of faces, edges and vertices, drawing 3D shapes (challenging!) and nets and went on a 3D ‘shape hunt’ in the classroom and around the school. Students demonstrated the 4Cs of 21st Century Skills in their groups, communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity.
They thoroughly enjoyed the lesson as can be seen in the pics!
We are learning to match 3D shapes with their nets.
I can identify and name common 3D shapes.
I can match 3D shapes with their nets.
I can discuss the importance of nets in everyday life, especially in relation to packaging.
