Celebrating the Success and Continuation of School Programs into 2019
As we welcome students back to Larrakeyah Primary School for Term 1, we’re pleased to update you on the expansion of our school programs leading into 2019.
Extra-Curricular Activities Program
This term we see the continuation of our hugely successful ECA Program. Each term students have the opportunity to enrol in a variety of extra-curricular activities to develop new skills and passions in addition to their academic learning.
This term 128 Larrakeyah Primary students (almost 30% of the student body) will be participating in the ECA Program; a 50% increase in participation from Term 4 last year.
Students will be participating in a selection of new activities, including:
- Ball Skills
- Lego Engineering and Simple Machines
- Ice Skating
- Make Do Construction
- Curious Scientists
- Just Dance!
- Young Tones
We look forward to continuing the success of the ECA Program and the day when every student is accessing these unique opportunities.
Larrakeyah Primary Welcomes Ms Yunjing Peng, Associate Teacher
Last year, we reported on the clear benefits and future career opportunities provided to students by engaging with learning Chinese language and culture.
Expanding our Chinese Program this term, Ms Peng will work with both students and teachers to continue their development of Chinese language and culture, as well as help our school connect with Darwin’s wider Chinese community.
We look forward to the unique perspective, insights, and shared learning opportunities Ms Peng will bring to Larrakeyah Primary.
Continued Focus On STEAM
STEAM remains a core focus in 2019 and our leadership team is committed to 21st Century Learning.
Mr Brad King, a Senior Teacher, has been appointed as the school’s STEAM Coordinator to establish, develop, and continuously improve how Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Maths are integrated into every facet of learning.
Later in the year, Mr King and a delegation of staff will visit our sister schools, both nationally and abroad, and engage in shared learning to develop a best practice STEAM program for the whole of Larrakeyah Primary School.
We expect our whole school STEAM program to kick off in the second semester of 2019.
